Field Tile and Glaze Information
SoMi Tileworks field tiles are each hand crafted. This creates a unique quality in each tile. Our tiles are 3/8" to 1/2" thick which gives our tiles a feeling of substance and durability.
A mold is made of each field tile size for successful duplication. We hand press clay into the molds and clean up the edges of every tile. All of the tiles are fired in a bisque firing to 1940°. We hand glaze each tile and then fire them again to the stoneware temperature of 2140°. The glaze melts during the firing process and creates a pleasing variation of color on each tile. Our tiles are suitable for all kinds of installations, indoors and out, in every climate.
Edge Glazing
This is a special treatment in which the entire edge is covered with glaze. The tile can be ordered with one or all edges glazed. And of our tiles may be ordered with edge glazing.
Bullnose
in this treatment, the edge is both rounded and over glazed. Our field tiles can be order with one bullnose edge, or a double bullnose edge (corner).
